Dodds Cottage

Dodds Cottage was previously called Dodds Farm or Upper Dodds Farm. It was built in the late C16th. The earliest reference to the property is in a will dated 1589. The farm originally belonged to the nearby Manor of Manston. The farm was never a large concern, always having about 18 acres. The farm was often tenanted rather than owner occupied and a list of owners and tenants can be found below. In the 1930's the farm was planted with fruit. In 1971 the farm came up for auction in two separate lots. This led to the land being separated from the farmhouse. The name went with the land and the house is now known as Dodds Cottage.

The house is Grade II listed. It is timber framed and thatched. it is a three cell cross-passage house. The property still has several mullion windows and a substantial inglenook fireplace. Three extensions were added in the 1970's of which two remain.
