Black Horse

 The Black Horse is a thatched, timberframed, building next to the White Horse on Rede Road.It is now known as Leaf House. Dating from the mid C16th it has a three cell lobby entrance plan, two storeys and attics. The property is timber-framed and rendered. Thatched roof hipped at one end with eyebrow casement dormer. There is an axial chimney of red brick. A diamond mullioned window is exposed at first floor level and there is evidence for others. Good unmoulded timber framing. In 1841 the property was occupied by Simon and Sarah Wills. Both aged 60. Simon is recirded as being a Farmer, not an innkeeper.

In 1894 William Mears and his wife Jane (nee Elsden) were running the pub. They stayed until about 1910.
